When Storms Rage
By Michael Youssef, Ph D. 09/02/23
The waves crashed over the boat’s hull as the storm threatened to capsize it. Water soaked the disciples, and their cold fear matched their cold bodies. They were terrified.
But Jesus, in the midst of the violence, was sleeping peacefully. The disciples woke Him up in a panic. Jesus rebuked His disciples: “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” (Matthew 8:26); then He stilled the storm with a word.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the author of shalom—complete, perfect peace. When He lived on earth, He lived in shalom, regardless of how much panic swirled around Him. He offers this same peace to us in the midst of our storms. Though the oceans of life can rip and roar, the Prince of Peace keeps us calm in the midst of chaos.
How do we experience this kind of unconditional peace? We can only experience God’s peace when we believe His Truth. The Prince of Peace, who dwells in us through His Spirit, can help us rest in His Truth by faith if we ask Him.
When the wind and waves rage, will you place your trust in the Prince of Peace?
Prayer: Prince of Peace, when the storms of life are swirling around me, teach me how to rest in You. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).
